i have office professional 2003 (win xp pro sp3) and after the updates released on august 25 on Microsoft update, when i close outlook it doesn't close completely, but stays active in tray with the icon.
usually the tray icon only was there while outlook was open, and when i closed it, the tray icon disappeared as well. but now it stays, as mentioned, and if i get a mail it pops up that notification balloon, which is quite annoying when using another app. right-click > hide when minimized doesn't help. only way to make it go away is to terminate outlook.exe from the task manager which then triggers the pst check, because of an improper closing of outlook next time i open outlook. not sure what update did it, but i suppose its the new office genuine advantage notification (kb949810; ver. 1.9.0011.1 i think) released yesterday, since its the only one office-related. since my office is genuine, there shouldn't be any problems, i don't get any genuine advantage notifications and the OGA check says genuine for both, windows and office. anyone else experiencing the same? how could i solve that? system restore would revert it (the updates), and i didn't install anything since that day, but that's rather last resort, i would say.. thanks |
