Rule to automatically add .ics files to Outlook calendar
Thanks in advance. Every two weeks I receive airline ticket confirmations via email. Inside each message are two .ics files--one for the departing flight and one for the return. Given how often I fly for my job, it would be very helpful if these .ics files were automatically added to my Outlook calendar.
Is it possible to devise a rule that, without my involvement, processes (or, depending on the verbiage you prefer, "imports," "saves," etc.) these .ics files so they appear in my calendar? Alternatively, is there an add-on that will accomplish this? Any advice would be hugely appreciated; I can't find anything in this forum or elsewhere speaking specifically to this matter. If this is impossible, I'm thinking I may ask my travel agency to send them in a differnt format. Cheers. |

Upon further investigation it seems clear that I would need to add a macro and then run a "custom script" rule. Having no idea how to draft a custom Outlook script myself, I've been searching for a pre-made solution to adapt online. The closest I've been able to find is a blog post entitled "VBA - Processing ICS File Attachments" (accessible at: http://anvil-of-time.com/wordpress/p...e-attachments/) but what I do with this is still a mystery to me, despite playing around in the Visual Basic Editor for several hours. Any assistance someone could provide in implementing this concept would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Hi,
I found this article which might help you, depending on the source of the ICS file: http://windowsitpro.com/outlook/q-do...port-icalendar. IT doesn't cover programming, but rather subscribing to the calendar so that you get updates automatically. It might be easier than trying to save and import each ics file you get. |

Workaround
Mike, thanks for the response. The travel site doesn't have a means of subscribing to the calendar, so I gave up and enrolled in an on-line planner that monitors my inbox for travel content and DOES generate a private URL as referenced by the article. It's working fine; I wish I had chosen this option to begin with, but I was hesitant about using yet another service.
I finally decided to stop searching when I read the coding was impossible given Microsoft's current security settings on Slipstick. Ah, well! Thanks again. |
