Trouble: Outlook File spans bad sectors - how to "tranfer" into other files?
Hi all,
here is a special request ... maybe someone can help me: When I try to copy (backup) my main outlook file (I have three files), Win7 dies with a blue screen. Using tools like Seagate's indicate that there are some damaged sectors and it seems that the outlook file (3.3 GB) spans them which causes the trouble when backing up. [---> I know that I need to xchange the HDD but for time restrictions cannot do it for some weeks and need an interim solution.] I want to "recover" the contents of the file (sa much as possible) and at the same time split it up into smaller junks, like archives for older years and project oriented files. I already have three files. One is for a special project, one is "the master" and one is an archive. So, to create more files is not a problem. BUT: How can I finally transfer the "leftovers" (whatever that is ... adresses?? adresses that come up with type ahead??) from the current "master" into a "new master" and have outlook to use the "new master"? One idea is to rename the old master to "xxx" and name the new master to the name the current master has. So, one missing piece: How to "copy the remains" into a new file? Can anyone direct me? Thanks in advance! |

Hi,
I don't think this has anything to do with Outlook; it's just that your Outlook data file is so big it's crossing over that bad sector. To fix this, go to Start...type in "cmd". In that window, type in "chkdsk C: /R /F". Once it starts running, the check disk program will discover that the C drive is in use, and it will offer to run the chkdsk program the next time a shutdown occurs. Shut down the computer and restart it, allowing the program to run. After it finishes all should be well. Allow a long lead time, as the chkdsk program may take a while to run, depending on the size of your C: drive. |
