Managing somebody else's calendar: read and unread mails

Outlook 2007

An assistant is managing a managers mailbox. When she is reading a mail in his inbox, it remains unread. She can only change it by actively change the mail from unread to read and it then turns from black bold into red.

Can that be changed? Is it for example possible that when the assistant is reading a mail, it will change to read for the manager?
