Default Outlook 07 Reinstall - Download Messages

I am having to reinstall Outlook 2007 due to having to reinstall Windows XP. I have Outlook set to download messages so I can have a local copy of them. Last time I reinstalled Outlook I seem to recall that I had two options. One was to start downloading from today's date. But then I miss all the messages that came while the computer was down. The other was to download everything (thousands of messages that took forever and created duplicates). Before I start the reinstall, is there a way to download only the messages beginning with the date that I select (e.g. the date windows crashed)?

stlsailor,

Exactly how are you "downloading" your messages? Are you on an Exchange server and you are "Synching"? Or are you importing a pst file?

It almost sounds like you are importing a PST file because you got duplicates. There is something you can check to not import duplicates.

Hopefully with more info someone here can help you.

I'll try to be clearer. I'm not using exchange or importing from .pst. There are two situations.

First, I am downloading mail from Yahoo (onto two different computers) in Outlook 2007 using POP3. So when I reinstalled Windows and Outlook, it went back to day one and downloaded several thousand e-mails even though they were already in the In Box I had restored and set as default. In other words, it acted like a brand new installation even though I pointed it to a .pst file I'd been using for several years.

Second, I am doing the same from Gmail. However for Gmail I have to include the word recent: in the setup before the username or the mail will download onto one or the other computer only, but not both.

In neither case have I figured out a way to simply download the missing mail for the days the system was down.

I hope this helps.

on Yahoo... Mark as read your thousand messages you already have in the pst, then mark as unread the messages you want to be downloaded, and the create you account on outlook, this will download only the unread ones onto your outlook.
its pretty much the same for gmail...

I checked Yahoo and all the messages were marked read. So I sent myself a message, exited Outlook, and checked the message on Yahoo via the web. It was not marked read. So I marked it read, closed the browser, and restarted Outlook. The message still downloaded even though I had marked it read on Yahoo. It may be that I'm not understanding well what you're saying, though.

Thanks.
