Using Office 2013. I recovered from a crashed hard drive and reinstalled Outlook, after having backed up all my files. When I reinstalled Outlook, it automatically set up a default PST file with my email address as well as a calendar and contacts list.



When I imported my back-up pst files, those ended up in an "Outlook Data File" for each. Is there some way to merge, rename the files? (I don't have enough activity in the new files, so I'm happy to discard those, if necessary).

This is a complicated issue, but in general you don't want to "import" your old PST files because it leads to a loss of your rules, among other problems. If I were you I would follow the instructions here:
