Default Disappearing emails from inbox


I sometimes see an email in my inbox and it disappears before I open it. Emails are from different correspondents.

I had this exact issue a short while ago and I too posted an inquiry but no replies. I am using Outlook 2013, W7. I did some research and my best guess is that it revolves around MS Outlook.com. When I went logged on it too had lost all my emails. Most fortunate for me my SP had all my emails safe and secure so I was able to recover my emails. Same thing happened on my MS Surface which uses W8 and Office 2013.
If you hear of anything else I would like to hear, but for now, I can only point to Outlook.com and black magic.

I use Office 2013 under Windows 8 and for about 1 email in 100 it appears in my inbox but when I reply to email the original email and my sent message both disappear from outlook.

It doesn't jump into my sent box, deleted box, spam box just disappears!

Hello Ray best,
To solve the issue of disappearing outlook inbox files we first need to diagnose what could be the possible source of this mishap.
Case I
Add ons : Add ons cause hell lot of issues in MS Outlook functioning.Try to uninstall them or remove the buggy ones.Below are the steps for removing Add ons-
1.Goto Run(type Run in the start menu and select it/press Window+R button)
2.Type Outlook/safe .This opens the outlook in the safe mode and then try to disable add ins.Here's how you disable add-ins :
File->Options
select Add-ins->select COM Add – ins
under Manage ->Click go
Select all the addins to disable and click ok.
Case II
Manually select the root folder path
FILE - Account Settings - Account Settings - Change - More Settings - Advanced

Where it says Folders - Root folder path:
Enter: inbox

Default Potential Solution

As my issue (which feels similarish) is intermittent it is impossible to know if I have solved it or not yet.

I have changed my Outlook 2013 settings so that instead of replying within the same window as the message (a new bit of functionality for 2013?) I have used, File, Options, Mail and ticked open replies and forwards in a new window.

So far I have not had the issue occurring any more and that is the only change I have made. However, as it is intermittent I might well be posting back again saying that I spoke to soon!

I have the same problem with Outlook 7. Occasional messages disappear from my in box a day or so after receipt, however they then reappear a couple of days later. It's intermittent and I can't be sure how many have disappeared and if any never reappeared. I've searched all folders and the server and no sign of them uptil they reappear in the inbox..

My provider AT&T doesn't have a clue.
