Default Contacts in other folders

I have organised my contacts by creating folders for Relatives for instance under My Contacts, but when I want to send an email all I can see is the contacts in the contacts folder.
How can you get Outlook to access these other folders

In the Folder List view right click on the contact list to see a context menu with Properties.

In the Properties go to "Outlook Address Book" tab.

Check "Show this folder as an e-mail Address Book".
