Forwarding entire inbox to another account
This may be a bonehead question, but I need a bit of help. My main system (Win7/Office 2010)is failing and needs to be sent in for repair. I have a very good backup system (WinXP/Office 2003). I will have no issue accessing my new e-mails from my ISP server, however, I'd like to be able to get to already-received mail for reference. This is a temporary workaround... I hope.
I have a backup account on my ISP, and here's what I want to do: I'd like to forward (or otherwise send) my entire inbox from my failing system to the backup account ID on my ISP server. From there I can retrieve them into my Outlook 2003 on my backup system. I don't want to move the inbox, merely copy it. Now I could forward them one at a time, but my failing system gives me only about five minutes or so of operational time before freezing up/blue screening/otherwise becoming useless. Any suggestions for my workaround approach? |

There is really no clear-cut way to forward mailbox. not even using rules would manage to do this in a manor that would seem seamless. What I recommend is exporting your entire mailbox to a .PST. Doing this will allow you to simpy Open the .PST file to search for what ever emails you need. Once your computer is repaired, you can simply import the .PST back into your server or simply keep it local and Open it using Outlook. The one issue you will run into is transporting the data from one machine to another..I would, if possible, configure both within your home network and transfer the data. Hope this helps |

Thanks for the quick and easy-to-understand reply. I suspected that there is no real method to forward the inbox in one shot. I will try making the .pst file if I can get my troubled box to stay up long enough. Come to think of it, I'm not sure I could import the file into my backup system since I am going from Outlook 2010 to an Outlook 2003. They might not be compatible. At least I'll be able to keep the messages. I don't really know what the side-effects of the repair effort will be so I am trying to hedge my bets. Thanks again.

Davidoma2,
Glad i could assist. You should be able to open the PST in Outlook 2003 as this is the standard for Outlook. Good Luck. |
