Outlook 2003, Modify default "entry type" for new journal entries
[Outlook 2003 SP3]
When creating a new journal entry the default "Entry type" is set to "Phone call". I then have to manually switch this to "Note". While that's a minor nuisance for one or two entries it becomes quite tedious when doing hundreds. Is there a way to specify the default "entry type" when creating a new journal entry? Thanks |

Here's how I did it. I wanted "Task" to be my default entry type. Found at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/180139 how to add new entry types to the Journal. (Requires editing the Registry and the article is written for OL2002 but still worked for me using OL2007) I've also found out through various web searches that "Phone call" is hard coded as the default entry type so DON'T delete it as it may cause your computer to blow up. Lawyers must have gotten to programmers to get that set up cause they are one of the few I know of that bill for phone calls.
So, instead of adding (or subtracting) an entry type I renamed "Phone call" to "Task" and renamed "Task" to "Phone call" by right clicking on those items under the Journaling list and selecting "Rename". So far it works. Computer has not blown a gasket. When I right click on the Journal screen the default entry that it jumps to now is Task. |

Thanks a bunch Alaska,
That did the trick, we use public folders and it even remains as a "note" when other users that don't have the fix implemented open the journal entry. I had given up hope on finding a solution, but you did it, sooooo.... you rock! Thanks |

Thanks, I'd been frustrated with not being able to change the default for several months. In fact gave up using Journal but it was hard for me to remember what I was doing two weeks ago when I was filling out time sheets. I've found several places on the web on how to change this but it involved forms and other weird stuff I was not interested in learning about. This seemed too simple. I'm surprised someone hadn't tried it before. Not bad for a couple of Novices.
