Default Distribution lists only coming through as winmail.dat

I have created 12 distribution lists for a client and when they were received, they came through as a winmail.dat file on her end and on my end when I cc'd myself.

My message to my client was sent from Outlook where I dragged the distribution lists to it, watched them attach and sent the message off. The end user, who only uses Outlook, pulled her mail but when she got my message, all that was attached was a winmail.dat file. There were no distribution lists for her. For my personal mail, I use Eudora, and always have an issue with people who use Outlook and attach items. They always come through to me (where I open my mail in Eudora) as a winmail.dat file instead of the actual file. However, I didn't expect this when using Outlook to send the distribution lists to another user who only uses Outlook.

Is there something in a setting that fixes this issue? I tried sending the distribution lists saved as text files also, and they too arrived to her as a winmail.dat file.

I must get these distribution lists to her where she can drag them to her contacts tab. Any suggestions to fix this winmail.dat issue and/or how to get the intact distribution lists to her as the proper attachement?

Thanks in advance!

Joan

Default RE:Distribution lists only coming through as winmail.dat

I may have figured out how to send the distribution lists where they don't appear as a winmail.dat file to the end user.

I opened the Outlook email that the distribution lists were attached to (when saved they are .msg files) and was able to right click each file name. I saved the .msg file to a folder. Once all were saved I was able to zip up the files and send them to the end user who then unzipped them to her desktop. She opened up Outlook and was able to drag the .msg files to her contacts tab where they appeared in their full integrity as the distribution lists. It was a work around but it did work.

Hope this helps others. I did a lot of research to figure out why the winmail.dat file always appeared and followed the instructions to change settings, etc. in Outlook and the way it sent mail. Nothing worked. Creating the distribution lists and attaching them to an email where the files were visible and then saving them from that email to a folder is what worked and solved the problem.
