Hi,
I have an HP laptop running Windows 7 (32-bit) with Office 2007. It has been running fine all these days when all of a sudden, Outlook 2007 started to hang on startup and chew cpu. It takes about a 60-80 seconds before it returns to normalcy. If i click "New Mail", it again hangs for 30 odd seconds and returns control. I have tried all the tricks and solutions like, 1) Create new profile. 2) Create new PST file and delete old PST file. 3) Disable all addins (including Adobe Acrobat PDF). I am unable to disable Windows Search Plugin. 4) Re-installed Office 2007 twice. 5) Start Outlook in safe mode and re-start in Outlook normal mode. 6) Installed Office 2007 SP3. 7) Disabled Windows Search and Indexing. None of these options helped. What could be the problem? Also, when Outlook hangs, the CPU usage on my dual-core laptop is 50%. Basically, it occupies one CPU with 100% utilization. Almost all other programs just hang and there is no response from other programs too. Kindly help as i am unable to do any work on Outlook 2007. Thanks in advance. Regards, Anan |

Hi there,
Did you install appropriate MS Office updates? If not, please install the update 933493 which resolves the performance issues and improves the general responsiveness of Outlook 2007 during common operations. Update for Outlook 2007 (KB933493) If this can't help, run the Outlook in safe mode. 1. Quit Outlook. Click Start menu, and click Run. 2. In the Open box, type: "Outlook /safe" (without the quotation marks). 3. Click OK. Is Outlook working fine under Outlook safe mode? If the problem doesn't occur under Outlook safe mode, please restart Outlook in normal mode and remove COM Add-Ins. |

Hi Technician,
Thanks for the reply. MS Update KB 933493 is not applicable because i have already installed Office SP3. I checked the file versions on my laptop with the one in the update, and i have the latest ones. I have already tried using the Outlook /safe test. It works fine when i start Outlook in safe mode. If i disable COM Add-Ins and re-start Outlook in normal mode, there is no change and the problem persists. Can't figure out what is triggering the problem. I don't have any Windows updates installed on it other that Office 2007 SP3. Thanks, Anand |
