Default Getting rid of Outlook so I can re-install?

I had Office 2007 on my system at one time. I removed it, but I still need Outlook. I re-installed Outlook but it doesn't work, complaining that

"The operation failed due to an installation problem. Restart Outlook and try again. If the problem persists, reinstall Outlook."

Been there, tried that.

Is there a way for me to COMPLETELY get rid of all the Office stuff, especially Outlook, so I can reinstall it?

Does the total lack of a response mean this place is completely dead, the answer is so intuitively obvious I shouldn't have missed it, or there IS no answer and the laptop just won't ever be running Outlook without reinstalling the O/S?
