Exclamation Outlook 2003 imap and purging/deleting mail problem HELP!!

I use AOL (have to for work. I hate it) through Outlook 2003 on a laptop new as of a year and a half ago. I have had this set up no problem for 1.5 years then this month it is giving me problems.

The only thing I can think of that "changed" is about a month ago I archived some old emails and folders I dont use because Outlook was running so slow. I had never done that before. Dont know if this affects the below:

First my spam kept saying that there were several emails in the folder but they would not show up. Not even the headers were showing up - just the (10) after the folder saying I had 10 new emails in my spam. I could see the one old email in my Spam that i had already opened a while ago. If I logged on to AOL.com I could access the new spam emails.

Around this time something changed that made outlook only download headers not the whole message. I ctrl+shift+s to get to the send receive groups window and chose my spam and inbox to have them download message and headers. This worked and also made my spam show up, but...

I used to have just one imap.aol.com folder but now I have 4. One of them does not open at all, two open and show (among other folders like draft, sent, junk, saved...) a folder called inbox showing the actual # of new emails I have in my inbox now, one of them opens and shows an inbox with only emails as of last week (when the new folders showed up.)

I did delete and "reinstall" my account, but I would think that this would make 2 imap.aol.com folders at most if I did it wrong...

(Also, I have the problem of my favorites folder disapearing a lot... but not all of them, just the "inbox in imap.aol.com" folder. My outlook sent folder never deletes from the favorite folder.)

I used to hit delete on an email (or move it to a folder) and it would put a line through it and then delete it from the server (aol) when i hit purge deleted messages. Now, suddenly it deletes the whole message when i move it or delete it. The message dissapears from my inbox. But on the next send receive it shows up new because it is not deleting from the server. The message does not go to the deleted items folder / waste bin. The weird thing is... sometimes when i open Outlook it will do this, sometimes it will not. Yesterday it was deleting messages and i closed down and reopened and it went back to putting a line through then then purging on command. Today I cannot get anything to stop it from just temporarily deleteing them from my outlook folder.

I dont know if all of these problems are related and I need them fixed!!! It is making working very hard and I refuse to work out of AOL.com because AOL bites monkey butts.

Side note - currently my spam folder is still doing the "hit delete, it puts a line through it, purge deleted mail and it dissapears" thing properly.

When i went on AOL.com and deleted some emails they now appear in my Outlook inbox with a line through them, but purge deleted messages does nothing to get rid of them...
