Default How to 'not send' from one account

I have an old email account that I no longer use for sending but just like to monitor any incoming mail - just in case it's useful.

I use my current ISP's smtp server for sending mail, naturally, but that causes problems for this old account, so whenever Outlook 2007 does its Send/Receive, the program halts for several seconds while it tries to send mail from the old account (even though there is nothing to send, it still tries to!), then, of course, it issues a Send/Receive error.

So, I'm looking at ways to stop mail from being sent from this account.

I discovered that going into Tools\Send & Receive\Send & Receive Settings\Define Send/Receive Groups I could select this old email account and then untick the box that says 'Send mail from this account' but that doesn't actually stop Outlook from trying to send, or at least from trying to log on to the accounts smtp server.

This is getting really annoying and is such a simple request but I can't figure out a way to do it

Since you have Outlook configured to not send any mail from this account go ahead and fill in the correct SMTP server info. That way even though it may still open the connection, nothing will be sent and you will not get an error message.

That is what I have done - because outlook insists you enter an Smtp server name - but the problem is it still tries to make the connection to the smtp server even though there is nothing to send (seems crazy it has to, especially as the send has supposedly been disabled

It doesn't matter if i input my ISP or the email account smtp server address the result is the same - outlook hangs there not letting you do anything until it has timed out trying to connect to the damn smtp server, which can be more than a minute
