How to get rid of "mailto" and brackets around email addresses?
How do I get rid of "MAILTO" and brackets around email addresses?
I have been using Outlook 2007 for years, and recently it started this odd thing where in emails, email addresses show up in an inconvenient way. Instead of looking like this: From: username@domain.com They look like this: From: Name, User [mailto:username@domaink.com] There are two problems with that. First, if I want to reply to that email address so I click [mailto:username@domaink.com], it opens up a new email with the email address as mailto:username@domaink.com which is invalid so I have to manually edit it to take out the "mailto: part. Second, if I want to quickly copy the email address, it's very difficult to highlight it for copying without either inadvertently clicking the email address (which opens a new email) or copying the right bracket, which of course invalidates the email address. I want to set up Outlook to stop doing this, can someone please tell me how? Or at least tell me what to search for in Help, because I'm not finding anything. Thanks! |

Are you clicking a link from within the email? Usually the MAILTO will show up if you are clicking on a link from within the email itself. Does this happen when you hit Reply in the email?

For example, if emailalpha sends me an email, I hit "reply", but I want to CC a previous recipient, so I scroll down through the past messages in the email until I see one sent to or from the person I want to add, let's call them emailbeta. I try to copy and paste emailbeta's address into the CC area, but then I have to manually edit it to get rid of the brackets and "Mailto:" tag or else they won't receive it. If I try to select only emailbeta's address by clicking inside the brackets, it opens a whole new email message to emailbeta, which I don't want. It's frustrating and annoying that I can't copy an email address like I used to, without an unwanted new message popping up or manually editing unwanted characters. It's not a show-stopper, of course. It's just a minor annoyance, but it happens many times a day and has been going on for months and is really starting to get on my nerves. It wasn't always like this from what I recall, so there must be some way to turn off this function--I just need help finding it. |
