Default Looking for good Windows folder utility

I went looking for the largest files on our almost-full shared drive, and found a few that could be moved, but I'm finding that one of the biggest issues is people saving a giant trove of full-size iPhone pictures. One person had transferred them zipped, then unzipped them, and they were taking up gigs and gigs of space 4-7MB at a time. I've been going through and finding these and bulk-resizing the photos, which we do want to keep, but not at original resolution.

I wish File Explorer could give me a list of the individual subfolders with the largest total size, so they could be inspected for zipping or reducing file size. I remember our former IT consultant mentioned a utility to me. I thought it was TreeSize Free, but it turns out that will only work on local drives, not on our server.

Just to update this: I had WizTree and some other stuff recommended, but decided to just do an Excel PowerQuery, with file sizes, then did a Pivot Table by folder path. This has the benefit of being updatable, and also I could then filter to include or exclude the types of materials I could, or couldn't, compress or reduce. I can use the same setup later to look for old Adobe PDF's which haven't been reduced in size.

Winddirstat (open source) will do what you are looking for. You can analyze drives or specific folders and it will show you how the space is used.

Thanks, this had been recommended to me by our IT guy, but while it told me folder size, it didn't allow me to filter as I ultimately wanted to. For example:

Folder size for all subfolders containing "Photos" in the folder name, with contents from at least two years ago. Power Query gave me results I could filter to get this.

For other purposes windirstat would absolutely have done the job. They at least identify where the bigger stuff is. But with PQ I could further drill to stuff I could actually do anything about. One of my projects is taking caches of old photos and batch-reducing the file sizes of said photos. It's good busywork between other things.

Do you want to get list of full path and size of each files?

didn't allow me to filter as I ultimately wanted to

What kind of filter?
Can you share some data and expected result?

Sorry if I didn't say this: I'm good with what I have in PowerQuery now. Among other things, it gives me the ability to track what I've done.

Marking this thread as solved.
