Default Suspicious Email Notification

I know this is not the appropriate forum for this, but I didn't know where else to turn. I received an email that claims to be from Microsoft account team, saying...

"We think that someone else might have accessed the Microsoft account (my gmail account). When this happens, we require you to verify your identity with a security challenge and then change your password. the next time you sign in.

If someone else has access to your account, they have your password and might be trying to access personal information or send junk email.

If you haven't already recovered your account, we can help you do it now."

RECOVER ACCOUNT BUTTON

"Learn how to make your account more secure.

Thanks,
The Microsoft account team"

This seems suspect to me, but wondered if someone more tech-savvy than I am might be able to verify.

Thank you,
Janice Fournier

As with all emails of this type ... DO NOT CLICK ON ANY LINKS PROVIDED IN THE EMAIL.

If you desire to edit your MS account, using your browser, manually go to the MS website and perform a change to your account that way.

I personally would close the current browser session and open a separate one ... I'm paranoid when it comes to this type email (which I too have received in the past) ... so as to avoid any connection at all between the current session where you are viewing the email and the new session where you will be editing your MS account.

It all sounds and looks like a phishing action by hackers.

Thank you for your response. I didn't trust it, but wanted to double check. I've deleted it and never clicked on any of the links.

Thank you, again...
Janice
