Can't open Word docs on server
Hello!
Got a weird issue where I can't open Word documents hosted on our Windows servers. If I try to double-click any such files, Word just opens up to the blank gray screen with the Office bar at the top. If I open Word, and then browse to one of these files, I get the error "The document name or path is not valid. (\\?\C:\Users...\60DB7F0A.docx)". So far, I've tried: * Opening the files by UNC path as opposed to drive mapping * Opening files on a different server * Repairing Office * Reinstalling Office * Renaming the Office folder in %userprofile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft * Fully updating my copy of Office The weird thing is, if I copy one of these files to a local drive, the file opens just fine. Can anyone here help? TIA! |

This is evidently a network configuration/permissions issue, rather than a Word issue, per se.

See, I thought that too, but I've verified that the user in question has full permissions for the files and is their owners...

You might try forcing Word to re-write its registry keys for the affected user.
With Word closed, Go to Start and insert the following command: "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\winword.exe" /regserver Press Enter. This will cause Word to rewrite all its registry keys and to reassociate itself with its documents and templates. If that fails, the issue remains most likely to be a network configuration/permissions one, rather than a Word one.
