How can I change the spacing for tab and indent in Onenote?
I'm sure its very simple, but I cannot seem to find where I can: 1) see how the tab stops are setup (number of spaces moved each time I hit the tab key) 2) change the tab stops 3) same for the Indent function. Thanks, Matt |

Re: How can I change the spacing for tab and indent in Oneno
It's not obvious how to do it, but for the tab stops in the table-like
structures, right-click on the four-headed arrow that appears to the left of a "cell" and select "Resize Previous Column". The four-headed arrow should turn orange and you can then drag it left/right with the mouse to change the "cell"'s with. That does not work for outlines. Keep in mind that OneNote is not intended for creating finished/polished documents, so the table/outline features in the current version were designed for ease of creating such structures on the fly during a meeting/class. |

Simply put, I'm nearly in love with OneNote, but it is sorely lacking some basics: tables, retained formatting in the email structure, etc. Oh well, I'm sure the wizards in Washington (uh, state) will figure all this out with the 2007 release. I for one look forward to it, and the ability to do even more in One Note. |

Improve EDITING, OUTLINES and TABLES?
Quote:
Of course, we want so many features to support all this. My request is to focus on basic tools. It has enough glitter and magic already. But can't do the obvious (for instance a "Find/Replace" on a block of text (have to copy paste to word, VBA Editor or something to do that!). You can't control tables well. I need to change the indent width in outlines (it is WAY too wide and makes a messy display with 10 levels deep (yes, do that often). So my request is to make the editing more flexible and include all the basic stuff. FIRST, a replace function that actually works; SECOND more control over outlines; THIRD Table control. Thanks for a most oneDerful tool: oneNote! |

Most important to have better granularity control
I agree. The more that OneNote is used the more it becomes second nature to use it for everything.
Yes, quick note taking is great but I use it far more for collecting my thoughts and specifically for fleshing out plans, whether professional or personal. In this use, tab / indent granularity becomes a key factor when using Docked to Desktop mode. Almost every page in OneNote becomes a live document that grows with age and is used as the index to my thoughts. Having to repeatedly drag the OneNote frame wider or horizontally scroll the docked frame to see meaningful content is very distracting to the process at hand. Shrinking tab/indent levels is the only way to get onenote function out of the way of using it. Also, expand/collapse needs to work on bulleted lists and outlines overall and independently at specific levels. |
