Link or Anchor Drawings to Text
I would like to link or Anchor Drawings in Onenote 2010 to nearby text such that if more text is inserted in the middle of the existing text and above the drawing, the drawing moves down with the remaining text... Even using separate 'panes' or 'blocks' does not seem to work: Putting text on First 'pane', then drawing on a Second 'pane' then new text on a third 'pane' below the drawing. It is difficult to keep the drawing on the second pane, it keeps landing 'below' the second pane so when that pane is moved relative to the first, some parts of the drawing stay where they are and appear 'behind'... I have attached a note file for demonstration of what I do NOT want... |

This is not possible in OneNote. But you can accomplish this with a trick. Add a table which consists of two columns.
Place your text in the first column, place your drawing in the second column. Now whenever the text in the first column grows the second column will grow accordingly! |

Ok, how do you insert DRAWINGS into a table cell? I tried that and was not able to.

Hi,
Hope i understand you question correctly here is what i do: 1. Create a drawing (just with a couple of lines drew a box) 2. Added a table with two columns 3. Select the drawing, important here is not to select the container which holds the drawing but actually select the drawing itself. You should see 6 dots appear around your drawing. 4. Cut the drawing (Ctrl-X or Cut from the ribbon) 5. Click in the table column of your choice so a cursor is blinking on the right position 6. Paste the drawing. Test it by writing some text in textbox. hth |

Yes, I believe you do understand what I am asking. When I paste the drawing into the table cell it 'lands' on top of the table instead of 'inside' it.

Just for my clarity, you did the same steps as i did i assume? Can you try with an image to see if that will 'land' inside the cell. Otherwise post a sample page with a drawing and maybe we can see what you want and try it out.
Sorry to hear it doesn't work for you yet. |

TheMausman has the correct course of action, but missed a step.
1) Create a drawing 2) Create a table 3) highlight drawing - Right Click: Treat Ink as Handwriting 4) Cut/Paste content pane into table This will land inside the table as expected. Please note that your ink will no longer be a drawing. I cannot see a way to revert back. Please be sure to perform extensive tests before committing to changing your document. |
