Default Ribbon and all labels collapsed

I am brand new to windows and to ONe Note. My maiden voyage has been horribly frustrating. When I open ONeNote it bears absolutely no resemblance to anything I see in any tutorials, Quick guides or support videos. The ribbon is collapsed, the labels are missing. I can't access anything. There is a wheel icon that appears with a couple of the labels like "drawing" that should appear in the ribbon. When I click the icon in the upper left hand corner I am offered the opportunity to split right or left etc but where is everything?????????

The Quick Start guides are more of an advertisement that something like a manual. Does Microsoft not provide manuals? In a state of shock.

Default update

No need to reply, I switched to Evernote. It's less about the software than the support. I don't have time to chase answers.
