Question How do I get file icons to display side-by side?

When I copy files into OneNote, or have file attachments to Outlook emails exported to OnenNote -- any time I have multiple file icons, actually -- Onenote arranges them with only one icon per line so I end up with a vertical line of icons rather than my preferred horizontal arrangement.

In other words, OneNote arranges four file icons on a page like this:

X
X
X
X

but I want them arranged on the page like this:

I've tried dragging the icons next to each other, but that just displaces one in the column for another; no matter what, I get this vertical arrangement. I've looked all over for a preference setting and cannot find one. Can someone help me arrange these icons next to each other?
