Default PDF Not Formatting Properly From Internet Site

I'm having a problem with a document of mine which is downloaded as a pdf from my website. This document has been created in Word and is converted to pdf format from there.

When working with the document on my desktop, everything formats perfectly, the pdf downloads to my hard drive from the web page as it should and opens and reads as it should.

However, when I try downloading it from the internet, although the pdf downloads without error, there are sections of text missing from within the document.

Messages also appear about not being able to access the embedded font and so on.

I've tried reformatting the document in several of the most common fonts, including Arial, Verdana and Times New Roman, but each time I have the same problem.

Nothing I've tried has worked and I'm really desparate to find a solution.

I've visited the Adobe forums and nobody there thinks this is caused by Adobe Reader.

So, could Word be causing the problem?

I'd be really grateful for any help anyone can offer.

Many thanks.

Hi 39 Steps,

If the pdf displays & prints properly before being uploaded, then it should be no different when downloaded. Any change in performace suggests an error with the intranet either holding an earlier, incorrectly-formatted, version, or failing to return the whole file (in which case I'm surprised it opens).

Hi Macropod,

Thanks for your reply to my query.

I don't think the problem can be caused by previously incorrectly formatted versions still being on the intranet. I've been very careful to make sure all previous versions have been deleted prior to uploading new ones.

Is it possible that the text is packed too densely on the page, making it difficult for the conversion process to recognise some characters and knocking out entire paragraphs as well? Except that you'd expect the problem to occur on converting from my desktop as well, and not a single error has occurred at my end.

One or two documents did fail to open when I downloaded them from the internet, but the most recent documents have opened without difficulty. It's only when I scroll down to missing sections of text that I get an error message about not being able to access the embedded font.

Any ideas about what I do next? Is this something I should take up with my server?

Ever hopeful.

Hi 39 Steps,

If there is any conversion problem it should be apparent in the pdf before it is uploaded to the intranet. If the problem is apparent only after downloading, then the problem is with the intranet.
