Cool Document Imaging File???

Why do I get a pop up box saying"The selected file is not a MS Office Document File"

when I try to open an email which has been sent as an attachent and has been produced by the sender using Word 2007.

I use Windows live and Window 7 operating system

I am unable to open the files at all

I am becoming quite frustrated.

Hi
If you are saying the image has been placed into a Word 97 file then their should be no problem with opening the file with Word 97. However if you have an attachment that is a Document Image file then you will need the source application used to create the file to open it.
Hope this helps.
Good luck.
Tony

Default Document Imaging

If I can clarify, The sender is just using the standard MS Word program and typing up a report and then saves as a .Doc file.
He then opens the email program, selects the recipients, clicks on the attachment and the Word file is attached and it is sent. I have 2 computers, one uses Vista and Word 2002 and it opens the file without any problem. I just click the attachment and it opens in Word. HOWEVER the other computer is new and has Windows 7 OS and a commercial Office 2010 program considting of Word. Excell etc.
When I receive the email on this computer it shows as an attachment but when I click on it to open it comes up saying This is not a document imaging file and I cannot open it. It also opens the Document Imaging program.
I feel that somewhere within the 2010 Office program there may be a set up that I am missing.
Any help gratefully accepted

Hi
I am running Windows7 with Office 2010. If your document is not confidential can you post it so I can take a look at what happens on my machine.

If the message says "This is not a document imaging file" or words to that effect, but it's supposed to be a Word document, the implication is that the document has been saved with the wrong extension. Save the attachment to disk, change the extension to .doc or .docx, then try opening it.

It has been sent under the ext of "docx" to me and it opens. My other computer cannoy open docx. It is using Vista and Word 2003. I have tried other word documents fromm other scources and everyone that has been produced in Word, will not open and the Doc image file comes up. Again, no problem with Vista and Word 2003. I cannot post the file aas I cannot get it to move/open etc

It would appear the problem is with either Windows 7 or more likely the updated Word 2010 program. I cannot find an answer anywhere. Are other experiencing the same problem ???

Have you tried repairing your Office 2010 installation (done via "Programs And Features" in the Windows Control panel)?

Thanks for that. I started going in via programs and features and I had to update to service pack 1 which includes Explorer 9 (incidently has some problems with Windows 7 according to my ISP) I have to remove it later. I ended up in "Internet Properties Programs and found that the default for Word 2003-207 was the docx extention. I have never been in this part of rograming before so I changed it to the default Windows .doc and presto it now works correctly. My Word emails are coming thru as I wanted in Word. Thanks everyone for comments and assistance
