Default Vendor Says Office 2010 requires 2007 removal

I purchased Office 2007 Ultimate (including Groove 2007, InfoPath 2007 and I think One Note 2007). Groove I never figured-out and I really don't know what it is. I have some forms I built on InfoPath and I have a lot of "stuff" in OneNote.

I purchased this suite at DiscountMountain software and I think they are trustworthy and have good prices. The software has worked essentially as I planned.

I now want to upgrade to Office 2010. The best price is for Office 2010 Professional Academic which does not have every 2007 Office Ultimate app. The sales rep said that when you install Office 2010, you first have to remove Office 2007 via the control panel Add/Remove Programs.

First of all: Is that true? I have never heard of having to remove a version of Office to upgrade to a newer version.
Second of all, can I just remove the apps that Office 2010 Professional Academic will replace and can I leave InfoPath 2007 alone?

THanks in advance

Default Okay to upgrade from 2007 to 2010

You do not need to uninstall Office 2007 before installing Office 2010.

I just did it. Went from Office 2007 Pro to Office 2010 Pro Plus.

The 2010 disc recognized a previous version of Office on the PC and asked if I wanted to do a full install, or an upgrade. I opted for the upgrade. It went fine. Just remember to go back and open the programs, go to the Help screen and enter your new Office 2010 product key to complete the activation.

I have another PC with Office 2003. I will uninstall that version before going to Office 2010. Going from 2003 to 2010 is a major upgrade. Going from 2007 to 2010 is a minor move.

We are not a power user, e.g. no custom templates, etc. Some other chats I saw suggested that you back up your templates before uninstalling. Not sure why, but cant hurt.

Hi
From my experience you CAN run different versions on the same machine. I recently upgraded to Office 2010 and retained Office 2003 successfully.

Hope this helps.
