Default Office Templates "Unable to Connect to Office.com"

Hey Everyone!

I am new to these forums, but I do like what I see so far

I am having a bit of an issue with MS Office Templates. We recently installed a firewall and are egress filtering this site. The day we turned on egress filtering some users were unable to access templates directly from any MS Office program, Word, Excel etc. However, they are all able to access the Office templates website at;

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/templates/

So, my question is, does MS Office use a particular port, or another web address that may be blocked by the egress filtering when trying to access templates directly from any MS Office program? Going to the website to download a template certainly works for a work around for the time being, but I would like to resolve this problem as soon as possible.

There is also no error messages in event viewer, or on the page itself. It simply says, "Unable to Connect".

Any help is very much appreciated, and thanks for your time!

Default File extension

I'm having the same problem, if someone can tell me the file extension to office.com then we can add it to exceptions on firewall.

Bummer! I spent a lot of time on this and finally resolved the issue. Below are directions on how to do it on a WatchGuard. If you have a different firewall it may be a bit different.

1) Connect to the firewall using Watchguard System Manager
2) Open the Policy Manager
3) Double Click on HTTP-Proxy
4) On the Policy tab or Properties tab click on the View/Edit Proxy
5) Under HTTP Response click on header Fields
6) Please add the following entries;
· X-LLCC:*
· X-Machine:*
· MicrosoftSharePointTeamServices:*
· O-Signature:*
7) Save the configuration to the firewall.
8) Test on client machine.

Let me know if it works!

Default Awesome!

That has totally worked for me on my WatchGuard (XTM 2 Series) as well.

Do you have any information on how you came about those particular header fields? I'd like to just have some resources to back up my documentation.

It works but I'd also like to know how you found out.
