I have not been able to send or receive Access databases the last three days. I was passing a DB that my Opera group was working on and the last time the committee chair updated it and returned to to me, it was "blocked" by Outlook as a potentially dangerous file. I need to be able to send and receive e-mails with Access files attached. What can I do? I did all the things that the MS Help file said to do, i.e. copy to a folder, open Outlook Express and import the folder with the DB in it and that was blocked also. I tried changing the file extension to e-mail it and then reset the file ext to mdb, but that didn't work either. I never had this problem with a "level 1" security file before. I have Norton Antivirus 2006, but have had Norton for years.



I have been able to send the file by Yahoo IM, but that's not as efficient as e-mail.

File could possibly be infected...sure its not?

Pretty sure it's not infected. It never came up on the Norton radar screen. I could not send a "trusted" .mdb file across the room to my SO. Her machine rejected the file and I cannot receive .mdb files from her that I created on our respective machines. As I looked deeper and deeper into this, I found out that Updates to all Outlook editions since 2000 have been setup with a "Level 1" security key in the registrty that blocks many different file types that might contain macros. Apparently not everyone has automatic updates running on their PCs. I got the instruction from MS about how to modify my registry to allow .mdb files. I'm not sure I want to do that. I have cleaned my registry of "worms' in the past and I'm not afraid to work in the registry. I just wonder if it's all worth it. I can export the data to an Excel worksheet and create a new DB to incorporate all updates through the "paste append" command and everyone I deal with has Excel and not everyone has same version of Access.

We can also share files through our SBC Yahoo sever with a secondary mail account and just download the file(s) directly to my hard drive or share the files "instantly: through Yahoo IM and probably Windows Messenger and AIM if we wanted to go that route.

Is it possible that the mail was rejected by the mail server? I just tried to send a mdb file, I can send it despite of the warning, but got a message saying it's rejected. Packaging it up as a zip file may help.

Hi, using a zip file will not work in my experiance.

Changing the file extension on the .mdb file will work, change it to something generic, like .c9e or something. it should then come through fine.
