Default Spreadsheet for words

Hello. I want to add words together instead of numbers, ie. I have lists of names that will keep changing and I want to keep track of numbers of people....Does anyone know if such a thing exists? Can I do it using a Works spreadsheet or does that only tackle data? Godany ideas?

Thanks

Not sure about Works, but this can be done easily in Excel. Suppose you have a column (A) for people, assign any cell with the following formula to calculate the numbers of people:

=COUNTA(A1:A1000)

(A1000 is just a random number, you can use any other one as long as it's bigger than the number of people).
