How do those two Excel files connected to each other? Or in other words, how did you make the second Excel file based on the first one?

Well, in one file I have various fields(file 1) ; in the other file (file 2) I have two fields which are common in the other file(file 1). What I like is to compare (between file 1 and 2) one of the common field and update the another field (updating a column in file 1 from file 2). I hope this clarifies the problem.
Thanks! |

I think you need programming to achieve that, VBA may be the common way.
Since I don't know VBA, I will create two ODBC data source for these two Excel files, then use a programming language I'm familiar with (such as Java) to process them, just like normal Database tables, this is far beyond the Excel scope though. |
