Default Accidentally moved Office folder to desktop

I have no idea how I might even search the forum for this... and it may be more appropriately a Win7 or HP question. Anyway, I mistakenly moved my Office folder out of the Start Menu from All Programs and now I can't put it back. Looked around the computer for other ways to access this, but I'm stumped. Anybody have a suggestion? TYVM, Clare in IB

Hi, ibclare

You can try dragging the Office folder directly from the Desktop and moving it back to the Start button. Wait until the Start button expands, then drop the folder where you'd like it to go. Hope this helps.

Default drag to start button

Allison, I'm afraid that doesn't work. I tried it. It pins it to the start menu but doesn't get it off the desktop. Grrrrr. I should just be able to drag and drop it somewhere, but I can't even find the window that houses all the programs. Stupid PC. Tx, Clare

Sorry to hear that. Please give this a try and let me know if it works.

1. Right-click on the Start button and select "Windows Explorer" or "Open Windows Explorer." A window opens and you are placed in the default folder of your computer.

2. Copy and paste the following address into the address bar of the window: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs

(As a side note: This is the location of the Start Menu on my computer. Hopefully, it's the same for you. You can also find out the location of your Start Menu by right-clicking on a Microsoft Office or Windows program in the Start Menu and selecting "Properties." Then select the "General" tab in the Properties window and highlight the address under "Location.")

3. You will be directed to the Programs folder of your Start Menu.

4. Drag and drop the folder from your Desktop into the correct folder or minimize the window and cut the folder from your Desktop and paste it into the window. If the folder is still on your Desktop, select it and hit the "Delete" key.

This should, hopefully, work for you...

Default HA! thanks

Allison, tyvm. That worked. I thought I knew how to get into the programs folder but obviously not. Why do they make it so hard to navigate around? Anyway, I'll be keeping that info, that address, in case it ever comes in handy again. SO, please pat yourself on the back for giving a helping hand! Clare

You're very welcome, Clare. I'm glad to hear it worked. Yeah, I'm not sure why it's so hard to navigate, at least more than Windows XP.
