Default Weird problem with generic file icons in Office 2K

Problem: we have one XP machine (in a domain) running Office 2000 that refuses to assign correct Office icons to anything but newly-created files. Any data files (*.doc, *.xls, *.ppt, etc.) that were existing show up in explorer with generic icons, whereas any new files get correct icons. This does NOT include the application icons. I already tried a couple of scripts that deal with the "program icons" and they didn't fix this issue. Thanks in advance!
