Default Outlook deletes emails

Outlook 2010 deletes some emails as soon as I click on them. This flaw appears to be random; at least I can detect no pattern. It's not just from addresses on my blocked senders list.

How can I recover these (they don't show up in the Deleted" folder, and I'm not using MS Exchange)? More importantly, how can I fix this problem?

It sounds like some kind of filter is applied... Do you have a Search tab visible on the Ribbon? If so, go there and click Close Search.
