Ofice 2010 LDAP query on Workgroup Network?
Hi
I was wondering if any experts could help me. I am testing MSS 3.0 and Office 2010 and have hit a stumbling block downloading Office documents through SharePoint. The test network is a Workgroup with a third party DNS server (this setup is representative of final network) There is no Active Directory and the machines are a combination of 2003 and XP. We have been seeing really slow times (up to a minute) to download documents onto a client. I have a 2nd test network which does run Active Directory and Microsoft DNS and the document is downloaded within a second. Both solutions prompt for a login while the document downloads, which i understand is a design feature of Office 2010. I’ve sniffed the traffic on the first test network and have found 2 DNS requests which occur prior to the login box being displayed and both time out. The first was for time.microsoft.com and the second for _ldap._tcp When i click the link for the file i want to download, there was an 18 second delay until the login box appeared, this was cut to 9 seconds when i got rid of the time.microsoft.com request using the host file and 127.0.0.1. I'm now trying to stop/block the _ldap._tcp request. I have tried adding the entry into the third party DNS and it doesn’t work, the third party DNS insists i add a Domain name to an SRV record and when i do i still get the same DNS packet next time i download a file. Im unsure who is trying to use the LDAP protocol, SharePoint, Word, IIS? i was wondering if anyone could advise me how to get rid of this LDAP call, there really is no need for it in our Workgroup. Thanks for taking the time to read this question Pete |
