I had MS Office Office Home and Student 2010 + support expired so I bought the same thing but the 2019 version.
Mainstream expires in 2023 and security in 2025.
I am confused about what to do when any of the expirations expire. There is a choice to pay again for the same, or Libre Office. I really do not like subscriptions or the cloud like 365.
I only use Word but like it to reside on my pc.
Could you please lend some insight as to what I should do and when to do it.
Thank you

Unless you need new features, just keep using it. I still use Office 2010 as well as Office 365.
If you want to always have the latest features, subscribe to 365. You can download the applications and they reside on your pc. That is what I do. The cloud-based apps are not the same.
That support expires does not mean that the program stops working.

It is sort of like the "sell by" dates on canned goods. Generally they will be fine for years after that date. They are there to get shelf turnover.

Office 365/Microsoft365 is the best plan. It includes the local installs of the applications. The additional benefits and cost compared to the upgrading path of the "fixed" installs is less. The product and security is supported and you have added benefits with your mobile devices too.
The 2019 product has a limited service/support life and Microsoft has that already defined. Security updates usually are available 2 to 3 years past product support.
However, as you indicate you only use Word, a similar product like Libre Office may be a better alternative in your case. There are a few minor differences in capabilities, though most will not recognized/see those diferences.
The DOCX format is an Open format unlike the older DOC format.

Sory about the delay but the email was diverted to a wrong folder.
I appreciate the information.
I have used LibreOffice and it serves the purpose.
As I said I want a resident program and no subscription.
TY
