Is Microsoft Office 2010 Still Viable for Activation.
I bought Office 2010 about 2 years ago on Ebay -- totally legit. Worked fine on my old hard drive. Upgraded to an SSD hard drive a month ago. (Using Windows 7) Have gone through all sorts of headaches and permutations in trying to get it activated. Current error message is: "that Microsoft can't verify the license and that a repair attempt failed" (True that an attempt failed) Office just opens for a few seconds and then crashes with that message.
Microsoft help said they needed a working application to check on activation problem. (One error message said my activation code was no good. Have the original box, DVD and product key-- which makes me fairly confident that my product key is good.) Just want to make sure that if there aren't glitches that Office 2010 will work. Will pay someone to reinstall windows tomorrow, hoping that might solve the problem (Office worked for 30 days after original install) but want to make sure that if we do so that ultimately there is a way to activate product. Also, as a backup, I have ordered another new copy of Office 2010 from Ebay. Don't like the idea of "subscriptions" at all and 2010 is more than adequate for my purposes if I can get it working again. Really all I need from 2010 is excel, which is used for a recurring fairly big project at the beginning of the year. Thanks for any help that can be provided. |

You state "I have ordered another new copy of Office 2010 from Ebay." but why are you fixated on Office 2010? Support for it ended October 2020.
At least try to get a version that is still supported. Office 2016 perhaps? |

If Microsoft doesn't want to support 2010 (fine with me) that is their business choice. But if they are going to require activation that is permissible according to the licenses that people buy, they need to have a viable system. If they can't support a viable activation system, stop requiring activation of old non-supported products.
As I said befor, only reason I got 2010 was for Excel, which I use for one fairly large project early each year. It worked fine for my purposes. I don't need or want newer editions. However, turned out to get around installation issues I bought Office 2013 from Software Keep for $55 and I have been able to get it activated and put this stuff behind me. Would add that Windows 10 was so bad that Microsoft tried to trick people into "upgrading" into it. |
