Can't Uninstall Office Professional 2007
Have migrated to Office 365 from 2007, but now I can't uninstall Office 2007.
Tried all the usual things. 1. Uninstall from Control Panel - just does nothing. 2. Used OffScrub which only sees Office 365 in the versions to uninstall. 3. Used MicrosoftProgram_Install_Uninstall - just sits with moving progress bar but never actually does anything. Office 365 seems to be working correctly despite this, but would rather remove 2007 completely. Perhaps I could just delete the directory Programfiles(x86)/MicrosoftOffice/Office12 which is where all the executables are. Any one got any other ideas or should I just leave well alone? |

Just to be clear: -
'Control panel / Programs and Features' list does show Office 2007 as being installed and you can select it and choose it before selecting 'Uninstall / Change' but this "does nothing". Is this correct? Office 2007 was working okay before 'migrating' to Office 365? Is this correct? What do you mean by 'migrated'? Did you leave 2007 installed and simply subscribe to Office 365? If so I wonder if Office 365 has affected Office 2007 by becoming tied-into it somehow? Maybe some expert will be able to help you. I only ask these questions before some expert does in order to clarify things for them first. Last edited by wiganken; 02-22-2022 at 01:49 AM. |

Thanks for your reply. Yes, the list does show Office 2007 as being installed and I can select it and choose it before selecting Uninstall - but this does nothing.
Office 2007 was working OK. I installed Office 365 as a trial to see if I wanted it before buying. I was informed by a Microsoft operative that it could be installed alongside 2007 as they use a different install process. However this was not the case as there were file association problems in Word. Other programs seemed to be OK. So I tried to uninstall Office 2007 which is where the problems arose. I have managed to get Office 365 fully working, but Office 2007 is still lying around. I suspect as you say, that Office 2007 has somehow got tied into Office 365. I am sure this could be fixed somehow, but if it is a choice between doing a complete Windows 10 fresh install or leaving Office 2007 lying dormant, I'll choose the latter option, unless I come across problems in the near future. Perhaps this will precipitate a move to Windows 11 on a new computer which I was hoping to put off for a year or two! |

Have you tried 'Force' uninstalling 2007? See How to force uninstall a program that won’t uninstall - RevoUninstaller
and the free uninstaller Download Revo Uninstaller Free - Remove unwanted programs easily |

I might have a look at that and also learn more about the registry.
Since the old Office 2007 does not actually seem to be causing any problems with Office 365 I will probably leave well alone. Thanks for your reponses. |

Be careful editing the registry. Any changes you make are done in real-time and there are no "Save your changes" or "Don't Save" prompts on exiting the registry editor.
Get it wrong and your system may not be able to start up again. Make notes of "Before" and "After" so that you can go back if needed. Backup the registry before editing unless you are very confident in what you are doing. |

Yes, I don't think I'll mess with the registry. I think these problems arose because I rolled back to a restore point before I reinstalled Excel 2007 to compare with Office 365 Excel.
The restore said it had worked successfully, but clearly it did not, as Office 2007 remnants are still on the system. It has also left me with Pending Windows Updates that the history says have been successfully installed. Never had a problem with restore points before, but I'll be very wary about ever using them again - clearly not error proof. |

I use Macrium Reflect Free to create images twice a month on a schedule. MR can also be run manually as well just before making major changes.
This means I can restore from the images within 20 minutes if things go wrong. If interested then research 'Macrium Reflect Free'. |
