Default How to change background 'paper' colour?

Windows 10 Home, 20H2, build 19042.630 and MS Office Professional Plus 2016, v2011 (Build 13426.20274, Click-to-run), Current Channel.

I am running both Windows and Office as a local account and not signed-in to online versions of either.

All Office apps work fine but I find the white ‘paper’ background too dazzling. I would like to change this colour for viewing purposes only and I do not want this colour to be printed out.
I have looked in File / Options but see no way to customise the ‘paper’ colour.

Can anyone tell me how to change it?

Thanks in advance.

I have changed the page colour in other Office apps but not able to do it for the 'Word' app, which is the app I use most.

In Word I can change the page colour via the 'Design/Page Color' tab but that is only for the current document. I wish Word to launch with the customised page colour.

Saving-as 'normal.dotm' template does not save the colour change. Saving-as 'normal.dotx' template does save the colour change but this is of no help since Word uses the .dotm template. Macros are disabled but how do I get Word to use the .dotx template instead of the .dotm template?

Is there any other way to achieve this?

Found the answer and a workaround which may help others so here they are: -

1. Word uses .dotm template and cannot be changed. The .dotx template was last used as default years ago but they can still be created and used. It is just not default any longer.

2. Workaround - I have created a shortcut on my desk top that points to the .dotx template which opens with the customised page colour.

Sorted.
