Default Cannot download installer

I have Office Pro installed on my laptop.

I need to replace the hard drive and cannot find myOffice 2010 installation CD, so have recovered the key using Keyfinder.
Problem is that when I try to download the installer from MS, it returns an error when I enter the key on their website.

Anyone got any suggestions as to how I get the installer now.

I tried the MS download procedure - which requires a key to be entered, and even though I enter a legit key (the software is installed, activated and receiving updates on my Laptop) their system says the key cannot be found (in their database).

If you entered the key correctly and it's not accepted, that suggests you (perhaps unwittingly) bought a pirate copy...

But if it was a pirate copy (and I seem to remeber I bought it from a legit supplier) how would it have been activated - surely MS would have picked that up at the time?

Pirated copies can take the form of product keys that the miscreants simply resell multiple times or they can be hacked copies of otherwise legit keys. When MS detects this, they are liable to invalidate the affected keys for all users.

OK -

But that does not explain why their systems do not alert the user that they are blocking their key, nor why they do not de-activate the product when it checks for updates - which I still get currently on my present install.

Looks like it's going to be LibreOffice when I re-install windows.

Firstly, MS does not know or need to know who the users are. All MS needs to know is whether a valid key is supplied at the time or registration, not what the key was. As for MS Update, you're assuming it needs to check the product key, but there's no basis for such an assumption. All MS update needs to know is that the product is installed - even during a trial period, for which no key is required.
