Default Need advice on process to upgrade from Office 2010 to Office 365

I have made the decision to upgrade from Office 2010 to Office 365.
Office 2010 is on my existing computer, and I will start Office 365 on a new computer.

Here is what I have imagined the process might be:

- on both computers, turn off wifi (to prevent any updates, downloading)
- Back up *.pst files and other Office files on old computer
- Change email password on all accounts on old computer by adding X to the end (to prevent connection to ISP)

- Use EaseUS PC trans (or similar utility) to migrate/move Office 2010 to new computer (I don;t think I can re-install it)
- Turn on wifi on new computer
- Start Office 365 on new computer
- Setup all accounts on Office 365
- Office 365 will "recognize" the Office 2010 installation and migrate everything from 2010 to 365 ???

Some more specific questions:
- Do I need a 3rd party utility to "move" Office 2010 to the new computer? Like EaseUS PC Trans
- Do I need a 3rd party utility to "import" PST files into Office 365/ Like Kernel Import PST to Office 365
- Can you point me to a source, or document, or website that may have this process defined?
- What happens to archive PST? Do I need a 3rd party viewer? Like Kernel Outlook PST Viewer. Can Office 365 access/allow viewing of archive PST?

Thanks in advance!!!

There is no need to transfer Office 2010 to the new PC. Simply transfer all the data files you want (e.g. documents, templates, workbooks, pst files, etc.) and install Office 365 on the new PC. If Office 365 is already installed there, it can import your pst file without the need for a 3rd-party application. See:

Paul,

Thanks so much! As I thought about it after posting, I thought the same thing. Just copy the files over to the new computer and let Office 365 do its thing.

To confirm: Copy files from old computer to new computer BEFORE installing Office 365 on the new computer?? Or AFTER??? Does it make a difference to my process??
I am not worried so much about the Word and Excel files...they are in Documents. I am concerned about doing the pst files correctly.

Another quick question: What is the difference between a pst file in these 2 directories?
- username\appdata\local\microsoft\outlook
- username\documents\outlook files

When I searched for *.pst, there were many in these 2 directories. However, only 5 that were modified today. outlook.pst and archive1.pst were in documents directory and 3 others that use the name of my 3 email addresses were in the appdata directory.

I assume I only need to copy these 5 pst files since they were modified today, and all the older ones are no longer in use.

Thanks again!!!

It makes little difference whether you transfer the data file before or after installing Office 365, though transferring them beforehand may get Outlook to automatically import the pst files. Conversely, with Word, Office 365 uses a different Normal.dotm template to Word 2010, so transferring that file, in particular, after installing Office 365 will result in Word 365 defaulting to the older Normal.dotm template. AFAIK, if you transfer it beforehand, Office 365 simply renames it so you don't lose your macros - but you will lose any customisations to Word defaults you'd made.

As for which pst files to transfer, in Outlook go to File|Account Settings>Data Files to see which ones are in use.

Update.
I struggled a bit getting Office 365 to work. I first tried with the PST files on the new computer. I was not happy with the result and reinstalled office after removing the pst files.
Now I want to import the data.
I will post a new topic in the Outlook forum.
Cheers,
