Default Connecting To Featured Templates and Themes

Recently installed Windows Office Professional Plus 2016 (System using Windows 7)and whenever I open up one of the applications I get the error message "Sorry we had some trouble connecting to get featured templates and themesand can't show them right now'...I have the option to work offline which gives a few templates but at least allows me access to my files.

Micrososft support told me I needed to upgrade to Premium status in order to sort this but I respectfully declined. I have tried various solutions but nothing has worked. I am told I need to whitelist office.Microsoft.com but I have absolutely no idea what that means.

So before I walk slowly towards the garden shed with loaded shotgun in hand if there is anybody out there who can save my life and offer advice on how to cure this problem I would be eternally grateful.
Regards
Borodin
