Angry Office ribbon not selecting default option


Hi all. I have a perplexing issue. I have recently upgraded to MS Office 2016 and when clicking directly on the options in the ribbon it is not applying the default, but instead forcing me to select a choice from the respective drop down. It is making me crazy!

Hopefully my screen grab has attached in case you need any clarity on what I am referring. The example shown is where you might just want to quickly turn text to any colour and therefore you are happy with the default red, but rather than it just doing it, you need to choose a colour from the drop down menu - where is this secretive setting hidden!

It is happening in all office products in my new install.

I don't think you can change that part of the ribbon, but you can select one of the standard colors.

Default

That button has two parts. Hover the mouse over the button to see a visual clue of those two parts.

If you click on the left side (the A) you will apply the colour that is showing under the A. If you click on the right side (the dropdown triangle) you get the full palette where you can select a different colour.

Thanks @guessed but that is the exact problem I have is that is how it normally works, but it doesn't. No matter where you click it insists you make a selection and does not apply the default or last selection...

Can you try adding the 'Font Color' button to your QAT?

Does it behave the same way as the ribbon button?
