Default Office 2007 not properly opening Office 2003 files.

Ok,

New PC, running office 2007. It refuses to open my Office 2003 docs. It tells me that they are corrupted or something, yet on my old PC with office 2003 they open fine & entirely correct.

Why am I having this problem? I have hundreds & hundreds of docs. I don't want to have to do some manual file by file conversion in 2003 to convert them to 2007.

Shouldn't 2007 just open my docs? Please advise.
