Hi
when i open the 'save as' box to save a word [or excel or powerpoint] document, everytime i click on a folder in the 'save as' box, the system gives an annoying beep sound. Can anyone tell me how to turn off the beep sound? I am using office 2003 running on windows vista. Thanks! Wylie |

Have you tried Tools > Options > Advance > General > unclicking "Provide feedback with sound"

Hi:
Thanks for your reply! I looked at Tools in Word and PowerPoint documents and found the "Provide feedback with sound" options are already unchecked in both. For Excel there is no such option [at least for my laptop]. I also looked at Tools in "Save As" box in all three but there is no such option for sound. So where could be the root of the problem? I am just so puzzled by this... Wylie |

Do you have a reasonable idea when this started?
If this can be established, you could do a Restore back to a date just previous this started |

Hi
Thanks again. It started sometime last October. Before that it was fine. No clue why it happened. You may be right, I can restore it back prior to that date. But it will affect other parts of the system--even if I do a back up for them I am not sure if it will still mess up my files/data over the last few months. ![]() Wylie |

The good news is Microsoft updates should easily update back to current, as should your anti-virus programs -- Your Word doc, etc, should be fine
I think I might go this route and do a fresh install of Office, so you will know for sure your Word is clean from any outlaw changes to settings that have crept in |

A fresh install of Word as I describe in my link is worth the time, because you get rid of all the crud that can slip into Word with use
Otherwise, you can spend time/waste time trying to solve something you can resolve so easily Let me know how it goes |

Hi
I have re-installed my office 2000 in my laptop, but the beep sound still won't go away. Did I miss out something? Thanks Wylie |

Hi
Thanks again. I have followed the instruction you provided and unchecked the 'sound' options [indeed those I found are already unchecked] but still the beep sound persists...why? This is such a pain and I am so sorry to keep bothering you. Regards Wylie |

I am at a loss what to do
Is this just happening with Word? How about Excel or PowerPoint? How about with a non-Office program? |

It's with Word, Excel and Powerpoint only. None Office programs are not affected.
Thanks Wylie |

I am stumped
If you Uninstalled Office by Revo as I suggested, all your Office Registry Keys would also also had been cleaned out, so when you Reinstalled, you would have had to have a "virgin" copy of Office If you did this, then your problem has to be in your Office Program you are reinstalling from I see NO other logical reason |

Hi
Sorry for my late reply. This problem is such a pain. I think I will back up my files first before trying out Revo. Once again thanks so much! Regards Wylie |
