I was asked to test different versions of Microsoft Office applications to see if they were installed correctly and to see if the updated version of Office has any issues handling older documents.
For now what I am asking for is sample documents from a reputeable source that would handle this testing. Are these "preformatted documents" available for download from Microsoft? I do not have more information than this at the moment. NOTE: The versions of software that I use at home are possibly NOT the versions I am being asked to test....and I do not know what versions I will be asked to test. Any direction to documents that are fully formatted would help as I can simply open them on site at the desktops to test wheteher or not there is an issue. |

Testing whether a given Microsoft Office application has been installed correctly isn't something you can test with any particular data file (e.g. Word document, Excel workbook) or a suite of such files.
Even where a given Microsoft Office application has been installed correctly, if it hasn't been kept up to date, it may exhibit erroneous behaviour due to faults that might develop over time, due to interactions with third-party addins, etc. Even when neither of those apply, patches might be needed to maintain compatibility with later versions. Conversely, later versions may handle files created by earlier versions differently than the earlier versions did. Whether that is a problem depends on what the changes are and how their impact is perceived by the file owners/users. Note: This is not a Microsoft site and has no affiliation with Microsoft; it is a private forum.

Thank you very much for educating me on this issue. I'm beginning to wonder what it is I would be testing and think that I may pass on this opportunity b/c it is not clear to me what I would be doing. |
