Unhappy HKEY Error 1402

Today I uninstalled some of the unused programs on my laptop and when I was finished and got back to work, I was unable to open office files. When I tried to open the files, it started reinstalling the program and this error popped up saying:

Error 1402 Setup cannot open the registry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE32\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image file execution options\Winword.exe. Verify that you have sufficient permissions to access the registry or contact Microsoft Product Support Services (PSS) for assistance. For information about how to contact PSS, see PSS10R.CHM.

I have this same problem with PDF files that I usually open with Adobe Reader.
Please someone help me!!

How did you uninstall the unwanted software? Uninstalling via the Windows Control Panel is unlikely to produce such results.

Have you tried repairing the Office installation (via Start > Windows Control Panel > Programs > Programs & Features > Microsoft Office (version) > Change > Repair)?

Dear @Macropod thank you so much for the help. yeah I uninstalled them via the Wndows Control Panel and repaired them but the same error appeared. Actually the unwanted software that I uninstalled were some software I didn't use anymore such as Minitab, Maple, Lingo, Opera Browser, etc. I don't know what to do. I have the same problem with Adobe Reader and I can't even enter Adobe related websites and forums. Please help me

This really doe sound like your system has acquired some serious corruption. I suggest using System Restore to restore it to the state it was before you did the uninstalling. You might then try uninstalling the unwanted apps one at a time, rebooting and confirming that everything still works OK before uninstalling the next one. Hopefully, everything will work fine that way - or at least you'll have identified the culprit and you can use System Restore to restore again to restore your system to the state it was before you did that uninstallation.

A System Restore won't affect your data - only the installed applications.
