Windows Asks if i want to update programme when I'm trying to uninstall
I recently recieved a second hand computer from a friend and found out that the installed copy of Microsoft word is illegal. I have a legal copy that I want to install but want to uninstall the illegal copy first.
However, when I click uninstall a pop up comes up asking if I want to allow the programme to update software onto my computer. If I press no, nothing happens. I've heard somewhere that the one thing you shouldnt do if you have an illegal copy of a programme is to update it because then the publishers will find out its an illegal copy. So I dont want to chose the yes option and potentially get into trouble for something that I am simply trying to remove. Any help? Thank you |

The "" message is normal for anything that modifies your system, including installing/uninstalling software. Unless you allow the changes to be made, you will be unable to uninstall. In any event, it's only the uninstaller you're allowing to run.

okay thankyou,
I wonder if you could help me with something that happened next... I was trying to remove microsoft word, however the only program I could see in remove/repair options is microsoft office so i assumed that would remove the word, which i removed successfully so thanks for that. But the annoying microsoft word is still on my computer and is no where to be seen on my control panel, i've looked down the list about three times. Do you know the reason for that? thank you |

Microsoft Word is part of the Microsoft Office suite. Uninstalling Microsoft Office uninstalls Microsoft Word, so I don't know what you mean by "microsoft word is still on my computer" unless what you're seeing is just a shortcut icon that some one has put on the desktop, for example, and which you can delete manually.

I suggest you check the Control Panel again, to see whether Office is still installed; if it is, you need to uninstall it, otherwise you won't be able to install you legal copy. If it doesn't appear in the Control panel, or refuses to uninstall, see: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/928218
