Cannot open documents

Hi there

I am having trouble opening any type of document - when I open a saved document on my pc it loads up e.g. excel but instead of opening the document it just goes straight to the homepage and not open the document.

I have opened up excel and tried opening the document via the programme, however it does the exact same thing.

Can anyone help?
