Default Office 365 account and Windows Phone 8.1

I have just upgraded from Office 2010 to Office 356. When I did this, I used my Microsoft Live email address (myname@outlook.com) as the Office 365 user name.
I need to set up an Exchange account on my Windows 8.1 phone so that Outlook 365 will sync contacts between Outlook 365 on my desktop and the phone.
When I try and set up the Exchange account on my phone, I get a message that the email address has already been used with another account on my phone. This is correct. When I set up my phone I was prompted to enter my Microsoft Live account details. This is compulsory.

Can I not use the same email address for both? If not, how stupid!

So what do I need to do to get this working?

Many thanks
