Default Ways to Add/ Edit/ Remove password to an Office document without opening it?

Dear all,

For Office Program such as Excel/ Word, I know I can protect the documents by opening the file and add protection to the document under the "FILE" Ribbon, "INFO" tab.

Wondering are there any ways that allow me to add/ remove/ edit the password of an Office Document in the Windows Explorer, without having to open the Office Documents?

Many thanks!

Unless you want to get into writing data to the disk sectors used by a file, you cannot edit a file without opening it. There are also ways of modifying some passwords by editing the file with a Hex editor, for example, but that still requires opening the file.

Default Nope

Unfortunately not. You could invest heaps of time in coding an explorer-plugin to do that for you, but if the Content of the document is really encrypted, almost all bytes have to be rewritten.
Maybe you can change the Password via the C# API, that should be pretty forward then, but maybe the C# App has to open the doc in the Background (I don't really know, as my office-api-coding-time was quite a while ago) as well and you would have to code for each Office-Application by itself.
